It's been nearly a week since the Presidential election and other smaller races for senate, house, governor, etc. took place and the results weren't quite what many thought they would be. The senate race in Florida was no surprise, being called fairly early for  incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson over Republican challenger Connie Mack. Heading into election day itself, many of the polls were listing Romney as leading the race by roughly 5 points. The final tally in Florida, which took until November 10th to be reported fully, was won by Obama with a razor-thin 50% to 49% margin of victory. A couple interesting trends continued in this election. Miami-Dade county and the other counties enveloping the greater Miami metropolis went strongly democratic. Also, Hillsborough County's streak of calling the election continued, adding another correct vote for the President to the nearly unbroken 40 year stretch. In general, metropolitan areas went democratic carrying the rest of the state over the less-densely populated counties. Jacksonville prominently went Republican following past trends. In summary, not the election many expected, but a fun one to watch none-the-less.
